Mission Statement & Strategic Plan
Vision: Children and their families in the military
healthcare system are maintaining physical and psychological
health. These pediatric patients in the
military have unique health care needs that are met while stationed in the U.S. and overseas.
Mission: To harness the power of
its members’ collective voice and talent to advocate for, and address, the
unique health care needs of the pediatric military population.

Strategic

Communication
Goal: Chapter members will have
access to information and contacts to assist in accomplishing their advocacy
goals.
Objectives:
a) Maintain quarterly communication
within Executive Committee. The
Executive Committee includes President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer,
Member-at-Large, Immediate Past President.
b) Maintain quarterly communication
with District Chairperson
c) Maintain bi-monthly communication
with chapter members
d) Maintain quarterly communication
with Uniformed Services Section leadership
Initiatives:
1. Conduct quarterly USCE meetings via
conference call or at USPS.
2. Complete Chapter Report yearly,
meeting with District 1 at Annual Meeting, and notify Chapter President with
any questions, concerns, and needs.
3. Maintain email communication with
members regarding Chapter efforts every other month regarding current and
potential advocacy projects and initiatives in order to better support and
recognize these efforts.
4. Recruit for open positions on
national committees in the AAP on a yearly basis.
5. Update existing website as needed
6. Maintain contact with Uniformed
Services Section to promote educational activities.
Membership
Goal: The USCE Executive
Committee will recruit, retain, and support all eligible members
Objectives:
a) Increase
membership by an additional 5% of the total eligible population
b) Financially
support first, second, and third year residents to be Chapter members
throughout residency at the four Chapter East residency
programs.
c) Recognize
outstanding young Chapter members with Outstanding Young Pediatrician
awards for Army, Navy and Air Force.
Initiatives:
1. Identify total number of active duty
pediatricians eligible for Chapter membership by Summer,
2005.
2. Assign Chapter East Champions at
each of the four residency programs to recruit all residents and staff to
become members of the Chapter.
3. Make points of contact at local
commands in all three services to recruit Chapter
members.
4. Establish incentives to be a Chapter
member. Consider online access to
medical libraries.
5. Recruit new applicants to run for
USCE open positions on a yearly basis.
6.
Amend Constitution and Bylaws to allow for
reservists to serve on Executive Committee as Member-At-Large.
7. Support educational activities for
medical students of the Student Pediatric Society at USUHS
Advocacy
Goal: The USCE will assess the needs of its members
and provide resources, programs, contacts, and services to meet the highest
priority needs.
Objectives:
a) Identify top 3
advocacy priorities, develop and implement mobilization plan
b) Implement 2-3 new strategies to
engage members
Initiatives:
1. Conduct member needs assessment focusing on advocacy
priorities and member value.
2. Develop an advocacy strategy for each top priority
that includes a communication plan, call to action, etc.
3. Support goals of District 1 Resident
Section, especially those that align with Chapter top priorities.
4. Support small, local projects to
influence pediatric specific issues at on-base locations that align with
Chapter priorities such as commissaries, CDCs, and DOD schools.
5. Encourage submissions of resolutions
for Annual Leadership forum while allowing the chapter to vote on the most
important resolutions to proceed in the process.
6. Create on-line forums as a
repository for “Best Practices” to include practice management and the
implementation of clinical practice guidelines.
7. Encourage CATCH grant applications
with the goal of sponsoring one application per training program per year and
one application from a practicing Chapter member that aligns with the Chapters
top priorities.
8. Recruit an author in military
pediatrics to write article in AAP news about military pediatrics once per
year.
